Be Satisfied

Hi everyone,

Just a thought for your day.

Be Satisfied

Do not covet... anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17 Perhaps your friend has something you don't have. (It could be anything: a relationship, a certain possession, a talent.) You want it too. And the more you think about it, the more you wish it was yours! After a while, jealousy consumes you, and all you can think about is what you don't have. Regardless of how many good things you possess, it doesn't matter... because you lack the one thing you really want. That's what coveting is--wanting to have something that someone else has, wanting to be something that someone else is. Not only is this self-centered, it's a sign of deep ingratitude to God. Envy turns our focus away from what we do have and toward what we don't have! It keeps us from realizing that the very thing we're yearning for might very well ruin us. Have you ever longed for something, only to thank God later that he didn't give it to you? God blesses us in ways he knows are best for us, so we waste our energy pining for what he's given someone else. The real command here is to trust God. Trust that he loves you. Trust that he wants what's best for you. Trust that he knows what you can handle. If you plant this truth firmly in your heart, you'll have no need to look jealously over the fence at what your neighbor has. Why are we so quick to be discontent with what we already have?

Until the Whole World Hears,

Pastor Jim
